RegGenie is another registry cleaner software that focuses on optimizing the system through scanning and fixing the registry and hard disk. It looks for invalid files and system entries and corrupt files, amongst other things. These are then removed to streamline the running of the system and to make it more efficient. There is also the feature of defragmenting the registry.

RegGenie creates a backup prior to scanning and fixing with restore points so that things can be reversed if need be. To increase user control they have included the option of creating ignore lists for both the keys and registry objects so that items can be skipped over during scanning. The scans can be scheduled to happen automatically and on a regular basis. An additional element within RegGenie is to be able to use it to sort out what is in the StartUp Manager and thus potentially reduce boot up times.

“Program was easy to use and fixed many of my errors. I read the other review and when I run multiple scans in a row I get a message stating that sometimes running programs will cause errors. I performed my scan in safe mode and didn't have any issues. Anyway, the program worked well for me and I would recommend it. “This program finds lots of errors. Then finds them again, and again, and again. I have ran the program repeatedly all day, without being online. The errors keep increasing. If the program is removing and repairing the errors, then why do they keep increasing?
All I can see is that I am out $60.00, and my computer is just as slow as it was. Don't waste your money!”

Overall Recommendations

RegGenie is another software package being sold as the solution to poor system operation and slow boot up. It is however also in that group of packages that delivers more than a solution to the problems by adding more with spyware and adware. Avoidance is the only solution as the need to clean up the registry is far less than the need to avoid downloading elements that will put your security at risk and make the system more vulnerable to attack.

Reimage is hard to categorize as it isn’t the typical registry cleaning product but markets itself as a Window’s platform repairer. It works by doing a free scan to identify what issues exist in the operating system, any operating system files that need updating and if there are any Trojans, pop ups, viruses or spam that need to be deleted. It is an 'All in One Program' designed to do the whole lot.

At this point instead of being offered a one off purchase and download option, Reimage offers the option to pay for a one time fix/repair. It is possible to get a refund if unsatisfied with the result but in general the service is like employing a remote technician to do a one-off fix for a fraction of the price.

The idea being that this will not only correct all the obvious issues but tune the system in the process so further scans and fixes are not required for quite some time, if at all.

The repair is achieved by removing all the damaged and broken files and replacing them with ones from Reimage’s ‘spare parts repository’.

For the individual Reimage seems a bit more pricey than thoe others but essential and well worth the cost if you want to get the job done properly.

As a computer technician visiting client sites it can be used as if proprietary software.
