RegCure

RegCure is designed to make your computer run more efficiently by scanning the registry and fixing any ‘errors’ by removing unwanted or unnecessary files. The theory being that this will then speed up the computer. There are many products that offer the same basic functions but the features that RegCure has is that is allows for either automatic or manual repair during the scanning process. This allows for greater control and should ensure that the software doesn’t delete any files that are needed. What it will actually look for includes invalid class keys and shell extensions, empty registry keys, invalid DLL entries and program shortcuts that are invalid or surplus to requirements. Critically an automatic backup and restore point is created every time that RegCure runs.

Additional functions of RegCure are that the scanning can be set on a schedule so that it is done regularly to maintain efficiency and that it easy to customize what RegCure does and looks for on the system. Therefore it offers quite a significant level of control to the user.

The website has a free scan but that merely tells you what needs fixing, the full product has to be bought.

  Actual Customer Feedback

“I don't doubt that people may had issues with this program, but I've used it several machines without a problem. Cleaned up my machine at home running XP Pro and my machine at work running Vista 32bit without any hickups. Using v 1.5?

I've also been using RegistryMechanic for a long time and found it also to be very good. RegCure seems to detect alot more problems though, and thus far as I said, I've got nothing to complain about.”

RadAct, http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/791331.html

“Regcure is not for spyware it is a registry repair program and the fee is for one yr and it is a great program. …these are for serious problems on a PC and the work good, have used this software for 2 yrs but only as last resort in tech work when normal free stuff doesn't on someone's system that has just really been treated BAD-BAD.”

G-tech, http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/913465

“it really did clean my errors, i mean thats the only reason i got it”

“Anyway, I used RegCure on my laptop and I was really happy with the results. It sped everything up and the boot time is not a problem anymore (it used to take FOREVER to boot up and I hated turning it off). Anyway, I know registry cleaners get a lot of flak, but RegCure saved me from having to do a complete re-installation of Windows. For that, it was worth it.”

“I too have been using Regcure and I'm a satisfied camper here. I'm surprised about the problems I'm reading here because I've never had one. I also have Registryfix but it's not finding the errors that Regcure does. Good luck to all...”

“I used RegCure registry cleaner on my computer. It found 18906 problems which it fixed. I thought that seemed a lot. Anyway when I restarted my computer none of my programs would work. I had to reinstall windows and then reinstall all my drivers. It took me hours. I have Vista 64bit ulitmate. RegCure said that it is Vista compatable, but i guess it isn't. Has anyone else used RegCure? I have asked them for a refund.”

“I am having problems with regcure, it is telling me to renew when, I have only had it for a couple of months! I installed in on one of my computors that was running sluggist, it seemed to help. I later installed it on a second computor, now the first computor won't start up and the second one is telling me I need to renew. I logged onto the tec. support and asked why, they asked how much I would pay for a answer?”

Tom Tharp, http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/regcure-software-c4155.html?sort=datea&page=22

“You're not alone. I purchased Regcur believing a sure registry cure after reading their "excellent review"... I was so happy that it reported a number of infections on my computer that Mcaffee and Windows Defender missed. But really really mad ...that when my laptop was re-started, the internet was not working, and warnings pop-up telling me that some files were missing when the installed programs were started.. I have to restore my vista system so I can use my laptop and connect to internet. To give Regcur another change, I run it again. As usual it, reported several infections, but this time I'm not happy... and again it crushed my computer...N ot a happy ending with Regcur.”

“I have installed RegCure before, but it never does its job. It found thousands of invalid registries and errors, but you do not get to remove the errors in the free version(despite its claims about being free).”

“tried it once due to good write up on its web site, but caused me to reinstall a lot of programs cannot not understand why so many people are posting it as it is not free and quite a few good free ones to choose from.”

“Regcure had a very noticable change of performance on my computer. I bought this program, ran it and it ruined my registry. I had to format and reload my operating system. Not exactly the change I was looking for. Stay away from regcure.”

Robkat3751, http://www.youtube.com/comment_servlet?all_comments&v=-FPwGfj2t0k&fromurl=/watch%3Fv%3D-FPwGfj2t0k

“RegCure is so overrated. I bought 5 keys, used 3 on laptops/desktop. All still run slow/slower. And I have more problems- small windows pop up whenever I boot up; the only way to get rid of them is open Task Manager and end task. And Google Earth won’t open anymore; it worked fine before; now, I can't uninstall it and update it. Tech support sucks too- their "live support" means you have to email them your problem, as they have no telephone service support to walk you through the fix; you have to email back and forth forever, which takes so long, I've given up.”

Overall Recommendations

It is tough to know whether to recommend this product which is one of the biggest selling registry cleaners on the market and a Microsoft Certified Partner, with the implication that it is a safe and useful piece of software. Or if it is to be avoided as there is a lot of evidence that RegCure doesn’t deliver on its promise and indeed might be harmful to the computer. Whether it did or does deliver malware inside the free scan package is hard to verify and indeed their site claims that they are certified by Softpedia as 100% free from virus, spyware or adware. Certainly I would be cautious as there are too many reports of not being able to get customer support, getting keys that don’t work and not being able to get the guaranteed refund. There are quite a few other options on the market to choose from.

ReImage

Reimage is hard to categorize as it isn’t the typical registry cleaning product but markets itself as a Window’s platform repairer. It works by doing a free scan to identify what issues exist in the operating system, any operating system files that need updating and if there are any Trojans, pop ups, viruses or spam that need to be deleted. It is an 'All in One Program' designed to do the whole lot.

At this point instead of being offered a one off purchase and download option, Reimage offers the option to pay for a one time fix/repair. It is possible to get a refund if unsatisfied with the result but in general the service is like employing a remote technician to do a one-off fix for a fraction of the price.

The idea being that this will not only correct all the obvious issues but tune the system in the process so further scans and fixes are not required for quite some time, if at all.

The repair is achieved by removing all the damaged and broken files and replacing them with ones from Reimage’s ‘spare parts repository’.

For the individual Reimage seems a bit more pricey than thoe others but essential and well worth the cost if you want to get the job done properly.

As a computer technician visiting client sites it can be used as if proprietary software.
